Role of Vitamin D
Vitamin D plays a major role in calcium absorption and bone health. Vitamin D is manufactured in the skin following direct exposure to sunlight; however, there are many different factors that affect a person’s ability to make adequate amounts of vitamin D.
The Osteoporosis and Fracture Prevention Working Party have developed a table listing the daily Vitamin D and Calcium requirements to prevent hip fractures. This table also lists the preparations which meet these guidelines as well as those that don’t, and the level of calcium and/or Vitamin D in each preparation.
