Falls prevention in the Emergency Department:

As presented in the SA Green Box Falls Prevention Leader Training since the beginning of 2010, the National Guidelines recommend that falls risk screening should be conducted in the Emergency Department, with at risk patients being referred on to falls prevention services. They refer to following document: Falls Prevention Guidelines for the Emergency Department, NARI 2007 which have 5 recommendations and 4 best practice points, including the need to introduce a falls risk screen into the ED to identify people at risk of falling again and to have a discharge plan to address the falls risk.
